Western Kenya Youth Begin Business Skills Training Ahead of Sh50,000 Grants

Over 5,000 young people in Western Kenya have commenced business skills training as part of the NYOTA project, a Government of Kenya and World Bank initiative. Upon completion, trainees will receive a Sh50,000 grant to start their businesses, with Sh3,000 from each of two tranches deposited into the NSSF's Haba Haba savings scheme.
- An estimated 110,000 youth aged 18-29 years (up to 35 for persons with disability) are expected to benefit from the grants across three cohorts, with 10,000 slots reserved for refugees and host communities.
- The program, implemented by the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) through the State Department of MSME Development, is first being rolled out in Bungoma, Busia, Kakamega, and Vihiga counties.
- Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya announced that President William Ruto will preside over the official launch and disbursement of start-up capital for the first cluster in the coming weeks.
