Hundreds of motorists endured a night stuck in severe traffic jams on Friday along Kenya's major transport arteries: the Nairobi-Mombasa and Nakuru-Eldoret highways. The extensive congestion, attributed to overlapping vehicles, bad weather, and an accident, left travelers stranded for hours.

• The Nairobi-Mombasa Highway jam started at Sultan Hamud in Makueni County at approximately 8 pm on Friday.
• The Nakuru-Eldoret Highway gridlock began at the Salgaa area, caused by an accident and vehicles in the wrong lane, lasting until at least 10 am on Saturday.
• The incident comes amidst government plans, highlighted by President William Ruto, to construct six-lane expressways linking major cities, including the Rironi-Mau Summit road project extending to Kisumu, Eldoret, and the Malaba border.
