Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Geoffrey Ruku, launched the Highway Emergency Response Program along Mombasa Road, urging Kenyans to embrace personal responsibility to curb rising traffic accidents. The program, in partnership with St. John Ambulance, aims to enhance timely emergency responses and reduce the tragic loss of life on Kenyan roads.
- 4,748 people died in road accidents in 2024, an average of 13 deaths daily.
- The government allocated KSh 350 million for a modern emergency hospital in Emali to serve accident victims on the Mombasa–Nairobi Highway.
- St. John Ambulance has established 14 trauma and emergency centres from Mombasa to the Malaba border and aims to train a certified first aid expert in every village.
