A recent 2024 County Competitiveness Index (CCI) report highlights how significant infrastructure and governance deficits are impeding economic growth across Kenyan counties, despite progress in urban centers.

Counties like Nairobi (77 percent), Kiambu (73 percent), Nyeri, and Murang’a (both 61 percent) scored highest due to robust infrastructure and governance.
The report identified Trade and Investment Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui, who urged counties to utilize the findings for planning and benchmarking.
Conversely, Wajir (13 percent), Tana River (14 percent), and Marsabit (16 percent) ranked lowest, hampered by poor infrastructure and limited human capital.
