In a government-led crackdown on illegal mining across Migori and Siaya counties, 11 suspects, including 9 foreigners and 2 locals, have been arrested. This operation, ordered by Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs Cabinet Secretary Hassan Ali Joho, also resulted in the seizure of explosives.

• Seven foreigners arrested in Migori County have been deported, while legal proceedings continue for the two locals released on bond.
• The operation seized three sealed cartons of gelignite explosives weighing 25 kilograms each, 72 individual explosive charges, and 137 pieces of shock tubes.
• Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai reaffirmed the government's commitment, stating, "The gloves are off. We’re taking decisive action against illegal mining, and we won’t stop until the law is upheld."
