After a World Health Organization (WHO) warning about rising antibiotic resistance, Kenya has launched new guidelines to combat the threat. Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital in Nairobi unveiled the Empiric Antibiotic Guidelines to promote responsible antibiotic use and enhance patient safety across Nairobi County.

• One in six bacterial infections globally are now resistant to standard antibiotic treatments.
• Fredrick Obwanda, Chief Executive Officer of Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital, stated the guidelines ensure early, effective treatment while reducing antimicrobial resistance.
• The guidelines were developed collaboratively by doctors, pharmacists, microbiologists, and nurses to provide a standardized scientific framework for clinicians.
