Kenya, the Netherlands, and the European Union have signed a Letter of Intent to significantly boost investments along the Northern Corridor, a vital trade route in East Africa, under the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.

• The initiative aims to create a climate-smart, efficient, and inclusive export system for perishable goods, shifting from carbon-intensive air freight to more sustainable sea freight, with investments in physical infrastructure and digital trade systems.
• PS Korir Sing’oei, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary for Kenya, emphasized that these investments form the backbone of sustainable trade along the corridor.
• The EU has invested over €550 million in Kenya’s transport sector over the past three decades, including the Mombasa / Kwa Jomvu – Mariakani dual carriageway where Team Europe partners committed €140 million.
