A Nairobi Magistrate’s Court will rule on December 3, 2025, whether Kisumu City Manager Michael Abala Wanga can record a fresh statement in a forgery and fraud case before pleading to charges. The ruling comes after disagreement between defense lawyers and the prosecution regarding the recording of his statement and plea timing.

• Abala Wanga faces charges including fraudulent acquisition of public property valued at Ksh. 8.7 million and unlawful receipt of over Ksh. 280,000 in allowances.
• The defence counsel argued that Abala was not allowed to record a statement under inquiry as previously directed, only a charge-and-caution statement.
• The prosecution maintains Abala had already recorded statements in prior files (E063/2025 and E064/2025) on November 17, 2021, and February 21, 2025.
