The Laikipia County Government has launched a fleet of motorcycle ambulances to enhance emergency healthcare access for pregnant women and newborns in remote areas, aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates. This initiative addresses challenges posed by poor road infrastructure and long distances to hospitals in regions like Laikipia North.

• Five motorcycle ambulances, equipped with patient carriers, were deployed in the pilot phase in Laikipia North and parts of Laikipia West.
• The project is a collaboration between Laikipia County and the Eezer Initiative, a Swedish-backed program supporting rural healthcare mobility.
• The launch took place on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, spearheaded by Laikipia County Health Executive Dr. Albert Taiti.
• The Eezer Initiative utilized 71 motorcycle-ambulances for 24,000 pregnancy-related transports in Burundi between 2021 and 2023.
