European Union (EU) leaders have agreed to accelerate efforts to strengthen the bloc’s single market, with the possibility of enhanced cooperation among at least nine member states if broad progress falters.

• The EU aims for "one market for one Europe" with concrete steps planned for 2026 and 2027.
• European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the initiative after an informal retreat in Brussels.
• Von der Leyen will present a "One Europe, One Market Roadmap and Action Plan" in March, aiming to complete the first phase of the Savings and Investment Union by June, including market integration, supervision, and securitization.
