Chaos erupted during the burial of Ababu Namwamba’s longtime bodyguard, raising questions about public order. Additionally, a slum fire left 100 families homeless, further underlining concerns regarding community safety.
A fire in the Mukuru Kwa Njenga slums on the afternoon of June 4 destroyed homes, leaving about 100 families homeless.
The fire, believed to have been caused by a leaking gas cylinder, began around 2pm.
The Mukuru Community Justice Centre confirmed that emergency responders and volunteers were present to combat the flames.
This incident follows another fire in the same area just months prior, highlighting the ongoing risk of such disasters in Nairobi's informal settlements.
