Bank Al-Habib Limited has officially exited the Kenyan market following the cancellation of its operating license by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), effective May 15, 2025.

• BAHL had operated a representative office in Kenya since April 2018.
• The decision aligns with BAHL's global strategy to streamline foreign operations.
• Its Kenyan office served as a marketing hub connecting East Africa with the bank’s headquarters in Karachi, Pakistan.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has announced plans to establish its African continental office in Nairobi, pending approval from Parliament. President William Ruto has endorsed this initiative, highlighting its potential to bolster support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and enhance economic growth through Public-Private Partnerships.

• This office aims to strengthen support for MSMEs and facilitate green investments.
• President William Ruto and EBRD President Odile Renaud-Basso have agreed on a comprehensive engagement strategy.
• Discussions also included a partnership with Ukraine to address food security and expand educational opportunities.
