Indonesia experienced a year-on-year inflation rate of 2.37 percent in July, primarily driven by increases in the prices of food, beverages, and tobacco. This rise in inflation was reported by Statistics Indonesia.

• The food, beverage, and tobacco group alone contributed 1.08 percentage points to the annual inflation.
• The highest annual inflation was recorded in South Papua at 5.45 percent.
• Core inflation, which excludes administered and volatile prices, rose to 2.32 percent year on year, suggesting continued growth in purchasing power.

Kenya’s monthly inflation rose to 4.1 percent in July, up from 3.8 percent in June, primarily driven by increases in housing, transport, and fuel costs. This upward trend was significantly influenced by rising energy prices.

• Housing, fuel, water, electricity, and gas costs collectively increased by 0.7 percent, while transportation costs rose by 0.8 percent due to higher fuel prices.
• The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) reported a notable increase in fuel prices, with kerosene rising to KSh 157.76 per litre and petrol to KSh 187.37 per litre.
• Conversely, prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a monthly inflation decrease of -0.3 percent, with drops observed in items like oranges, Irish potatoes, and cabbages.
