Kenyan Footballers in International News; Harambee Stars Prepare for Qualifiers - September 2025
Kenyan footballer Ethan Henry Gwendo, based in Florida, has been named a finalist for the Youth Athlete of the Year award organized by Colossal, vying for a Sh3.2 million ($25,000) bonus. He is the only African among the five finalists. In the UK, Grimsby Town has been fined £20,000 (Sh3.4 million) by the English Football League (EFL). The fine was for fielding an ineligible player, Kenyan midfielder Clarke Oduor, during a Carabao Cup victory against Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Harambee Stars are preparing for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Seychelles. Coach Benni McCarthy aims to collect points and develop the team for future tournaments despite slim qualification chances.
