Seven suspects have been arraigned in a Karatina court in connection with the murder of 75-year-old Joe Rukwarwo in Mathira, Nyeri County. The suspects were not required to take a plea as investigations are ongoing.

• Principal Magistrate Eva Kanyiri released the suspects on a bond of KSh 1 million each with a surety of a similar amount.

A judge in New York state has dismissed two terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione, the alleged killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, stating there was insufficient evidence to justify the terrorism-related murder claims.

• Judge Gregory Carro ruled that a charge of second-degree murder against Mangione could stand.
• The dismissed first-degree murder charge would have carried a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole, while the remaining second-degree murder charge carries a minimum sentence of 15 to 25 years.
• Mangione also faces federal murder charges, which could lead to the death penalty, and has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The High Court has ordered the Ministry of Interior and National Coordination to pay a Democratic Republic of Congo national over Ksh1.5 million in compensation for unlawfully denying her entry into Kenya, despite holding valid travel documents under a new visa waiver agreement.

• A DRC foreigner was denied entry into Kenya twice on September 21, 2023, and October 2, 2023, despite the visa waiver effective September 1, 2023.
• Justice Bahati Mwamuye ordered the government to pay Kshs. 1.5 million for unfair discrimination and breach of rights, plus Kshs 184,756 for special damages.
• The court found the Ministry of Interior failed to provide sufficient reasons for denying entry, violating the foreigner’s right to fair administrative action.
