Football Fan Misconduct Leads to Arrests and Official Warnings in Nairobi and Nice - September 2025
During a CAF Champions League match, fans of Mogadishu City Club were seen desecrating the Kenyan flag at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi. Following the incident, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned that desecrating Kenya's national symbols is a criminal offense. Murkomen emphasized that misusing national symbols like the flag undermines national unity and will lead to legal consequences under the National Flag, Emblems and Names Act. In a separate event, French police arrested 101 Roma fans in Nice, with some carrying weapons, ahead of a Europa League clash. These arrests occurred the day before the match, and authorities had banned Roma fans from displaying team allegiances in the city.
