National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has announced that three key election-related bills will be passed within the next three months to ensure timely preparations for the 2027 General Election. This initiative aims to rectify past errors of enacting electoral laws too close to polling dates.

• Among the bills is the Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2024 (Senate Bill No. 29 of 2024), seeking to reform voter registration and by-election processes.
• Wetang'ula urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to intensify public engagement and voter registration efforts to restore public confidence.
• The United Kingdom, through Chargé d’Affaires ad interim Ed Barnett, is supporting the IEBC's capacity-building through strategic communication and system strengthening.

The Public Service Commission (PSC) has issued a stern warning to all civil servants, prohibiting their involvement in politics ahead of the November 27, 2025 by-elections. Public officers intending to contest must resign within seven days of vacancy declaration or face disqualification and disciplinary action.

• All public officers are barred from political activities that could compromise neutrality, as per Section 12 (c) and (d) of the Political Parties Act (Cap. 7D) and Section 25(1) of the Conflict of Interest Act, 2025.
• The directive, signed by PSC Vice Chairperson Mary Kimonye, mandates that institutional heads submit lists of resigned staff to the PSC.
• Breaching these provisions will lead to disciplinary action, including suspension, termination, or removal from office, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) overseeing by-elections for 24 constituencies.
