Kenyan Tech Sector Sees New Launches, Infrastructure Deal, and Major Data Breach - October 2025
A staggering data breach at M-Tiba, a major Kenyan mobile health and insurance platform, reportedly exposed the sensitive personal and medical records of 4.8 million Kenyans. A threat actor, "Kazu," claims to have exfiltrated 2.15 terabytes of data. In infrastructure developments, Safaricom has partnered with Meta to expand internet infrastructure in Africa with a new high-capacity subsea cable connecting Oman and Kenya. On the product front, Samsung is rolling out its One UI 8 update, based on Android 16, to the Galaxy Tab S6 Lite (2024) in Kenya. Additionally, the TECNO Spark Slim smartphone is set to launch in Kenya soon, following pre-orders going live in Uganda and Ghana. The device is notable for being the world’s slimmest 3D-curved smartphone at just 5.93mm thick.
