The Kenyan government has deployed a multi-agency team to respond to the devastating impact of heavy rains which have caused significant loss of life and property damage. A landslide in Elgeyo Marakwet County claimed 13 lives, according to one report, with rescue operations ongoing. A separate report stated that deadly floods and a mudslide triggered by heavy rains tragically claimed the lives of nine people in the same county. In response to the disaster, the state plans to airlift candidates in Elgeyo Marakwet who are sitting for national exams.
