Former CJ Maraga Opposes Alleged Plot to Extend Ruto's Term as Mudavadi Proposes Referendum - December 2025
Former Chief Justice David Maraga has alleged a government plot exists to extend President Ruto's term beyond 2032. He announced he will lead the Ukatiba Movement to oppose what he claims is a plan by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government to abolish presidential term limits. Maraga dismissed proposals for constitutional amendments as politically motivated "camouflages" that threaten Kenya's 2010 Constitution. Separately, Kenya's Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has proposed a "seventh ballot" constitutional referendum. Mudavadi's proposal suggests the referendum run concurrently with the 2027 general election to resolve long-standing constitutional issues.
