Kenya and the United States reviewed trade and security cooperation during a meeting between President William Ruto and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau on Thursday, January 29, at the State House in Nairobi. Discussions focused on strengthening bilateral ties, enhancing trade, and addressing regional security concerns.

• In 2024, Kenya exported goods worth over Ksh 95 billion to the U.S., while the U.S. exported goods worth around Ksh 99 billion to Kenya.
• A comprehensive trade agreement is being discussed, covering tariff reductions, digital trade rules, and investment facilitation, with President Ruto welcoming the renewal of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
• The leaders also discussed the Ksh 208 billion Kenya–U.S. Health Cooperation Framework and regional security, including support for the Multinational Security Support mission in Haiti and counterterrorism efforts in Somalia.

President William Ruto announced plans for a new airport and an international football stadium in Kisii County to boost the region's economy. These projects will commence with a development tour by the President next month.

• The existing Suneka airport will be renovated with an allocation of Ksh400 million, and construction is expected to begin next month.
• Gusii Stadium will undergo a major upgrade to international standards, utilizing the adjacent ASK showgrounds, with Ksh770 million allocated for its expansion.
• The President also confirmed the directive for the removal of Kisii GK prisons from the town center to free up space for affordable housing construction.
