Police Use Teargas as Rival ODM Factions Clash in Kakamega - February 2026

Rival factions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) held parallel rallies, signaling escalating tensions. One rally, led by Dr. Oburu Oginga’s "Linda Ground" faction, was planned for Siaya, while another by Secretary General Edwin Sifuna’s and Babu Owino’s "Linda Mwananchi" group was held in Kakamega. Heavy police presence and teargas marred Kakamega town as authorities dispersed crowds ahead of the rally at Amalemba Grounds. Tensions ran high as two opposing political factions clashed. Despite police deploying teargas, the rally in Kakamega proceeded with attendees defying dispersal attempts to hear leaders speak.
