President William Ruto announced that Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni joined him to witness the ongoing construction of the Kisumu-Malaba Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), marking a significant moment for regional integration. President Museveni officiated the groundbreaking for the Kisumu-Mabala SGR, emphasizing its role in modernizing Uganda's transport system. Suna East MP Junet Mohamed announced that the SGR has finally reached Kisumu, fulfilling the vision of the late Raila Odinga. President Ruto highlighted the SGR's significant achievements, reporting that it has transported more than 15 million passengers and over 45 million tonnes of freight over the past eight years.
