A protest turned into a riot at the University of Nairobi's main campus on Sunday night as students expressed frustration over a severe water shortage lasting over two weeks, particularly affecting female hostels. Students are threatening to block University Way in protest. The disturbances occurred as Kenya marked World Water Day, with the government highlighting gender inequalities in water access and emphasizing the disproportionate burden carried by women and girls. Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa pledged to expand access to clean water, acknowledging that women bear the burden of water shortages.
