IEBC: Pre-2012 Voters Must Register Afresh as 344,000 Sign Up in Ongoing Drive - April 2026
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced that all Kenyans registered to vote before 2012 must re-register using the current biometric system. The ongoing Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise, which aims to enlist 2.5 million new voters, has seen 344,316 people register in its first four days. This directive aims to include older voter data in the current biometric Register of Voters (RoV) and ensure the integrity of the 2027 General Election by updating legacy data. DAP-Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has challenged the IEBC over its directive, questioning the necessity after successful biometric identification in the last election.
