Teargas in Kikuyu as Police Break Up Roadblocks Ahead of Gachagua-led Rally - April 2026
Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), faced a chaotic scene in Kikuyu on Saturday when police fired teargas at his rally, leading to several injuries. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua defied police orders and addressed supporters in Kikuyu Town on Saturday amid teargas and clashes, with the event marked by running battles between security officers and youths. Police used teargas to disperse crowds who had barricaded key roads in Kikuyu on Saturday morning, disrupting traffic ahead of a political rally organised by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly condemned disrespectful remarks and political infighting at funerals, stating they violate Kenyan culture and offend grieving families, in the wake of remarks made by Gachagua.
