Kikuyu town experienced disruptions when police allegedly blocked a planned rally by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on April 11. The event was marred by reports of police heavy-handedness, alleged assault, and the use of teargas and live ammunition. A violent confrontation erupted as police reportedly attacked opposition leaders, including DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, as they attempted to address residents. The United Opposition and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wah traded accusations over the violence. Separately, leaders from a broad-based coalition strongly criticized Gachagua for remarks he made in Ol Kalou, which were labeled as reckless and disrespectful.
