Kikuyu town experienced violent disruptions as police allegedly blocked a planned rally by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on April 11, 2026. The event was marred by reports of police heavy-handedness, alleged assault on opposition leaders, and the use of teargas and live ammunition. Journalists were reportedly attacked by police as they attempted to cover the confrontation. Separately, leaders from a broad-based coalition are strongly criticizing Gachagua for remarks he made in Ol Kalou, which were labeled as reckless and disrespectful to President William Ruto.
