Electricity consumers in Kenya will face higher power bills starting in April 2026 due to three new charges introduced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).

• The new charges include a Foreign Exchange Fluctuation Adjustment (adding 123.41 cents/kWh), a Water Resource levy (1.54 cents/kWh), and a significant Fuel Energy Cost Charge (347 cents/kWh).
• The adjustments were announced in a Gazette Notice and are deemed necessary by EPRA Acting Director-General Joseph Oketch to reflect true generation and supply costs.
• Consumers in off-grid and remote areas, particularly those relying on diesel generators, are expected to bear the brunt of the increases, with regions like Turkana County and Lamu County facing higher costs.

Following intervention by the Commission on Administrative Justice, Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) has settled a Sh3.9 million land compensation claim. The payment resolves a long-standing dispute for land compulsorily acquired for a major power transmission project.

Five Kenyan clean cooking companies are seeking to raise a total of Sh5.6 billion (approximately $43 million) from international investors to scale their operations and meet growing demand for eco-friendly cooking solutions.
