The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court has ordered former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to defend himself in a 2018 corruption case. The court found that sufficient evidence exists to proceed against Sonko and his co-accused on charges of conspiracy, conflict of interest, and acquisition of proceeds of crime. Separately, Kenya's Wajir County is in the final stages of preparation for the national Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, marking the first time the event will be held in Northern Kenya. Additionally, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has announced the successful conclusion of its continuous voter registration exercise, adding 2.6 million new voters to the register.
