President William Ruto announced a wage increase for Kenyan workers to help mitigate the rising cost of living on May 1, coinciding with Labour Day. The President addressed the nation during the 61st Labour Day celebrations held in Vihiga at Chavakali High School, where thousands of Kenyan workers gathered. Security was heightened at Chavakali Boys High School in Vihiga as the institution prepared to host the celebrations. Cabinet Secretary Mithika Mutua informed President Ruto that the Kenyan labour sector has experienced significant growth, citing that figures don't lie. Additionally, a 12% general wages increase was announced with a 15% increase specifically for the agricultural sector.
