Truck Drivers Stage Strike Disrupting Cross-Border Trade - May 2026

Truck and trailer drivers heading to neighbouring countries have gone on strike, disrupting cross-border trade. Normal business in Busia town was disrupted after long-distance truck drivers staged a protest, parking their vehicles on the road and causing a significant traffic jam. More than 500 truck drivers in Kenya are set to benefit from new job opportunities in Saudi Arabia. The National Transport and Safety Authority is defending its move to implement electronic logbooks as part of reforms to enhance vehicle registration efficiency and bolster road safety.
