National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has urged political leaders to cease spreading misinformation about the Finance Bill 2026/27. Mbadi defended the Finance Bill 2026, stating its aim is to simplify taxes and protect Kenyans, not to overburden them. The National Assembly has vehemently denied reports circulating online claiming the Finance Bill 2026 introduces an annual land rent for freehold land. Mbadi has also rebuffed claims made by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka regarding the bill's alleged land tax provisions.
