Kenya is intensifying its surveillance and preparedness measures against Ebola Virus Disease, having screened over 80,000 travelers at various points of entry. All 56 suspected samples tested have been negative for the virus, with the government confirming Kenya remains free of Ebola despite outbreaks in neighboring Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has defended Kenya's Ebola preparedness and quarantine measures in court against challenges from the Katiba Institute and the Law Society of Kenya. However, protesters in Nanyuki have threatened another strike following their arrest during demonstrations against a proposed Ebola quarantine facility, with 17 of the 31 arrested individuals released on a KSh10,000 cash bail each.
