Kenya's health sector has received a significant boost in the 2026/27 budget, securing an allocation of Sh177.2 billion, which marks a substantial increase of Ksh39.1 billion from the previous financial year aimed at bolstering service delivery under Taifa Care and Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga has urged county health leaders to accelerate the implementation of UHC reforms, emphasizing that successful service delivery at the facility level is now crucial. Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua has raised serious concerns about overcrowding and bed-sharing in public health facilities across Kitui County, warning of a significant threat to patient safety and infection control. Challenges within the Strategic Health Authority (SHA) continue to raise concerns even as the Kenyan health budget sees an increase.
