Nine Candidates to Contest Ol Kalou Parliamentary By-Election - July 2026

Nine candidates are set to participate in the highly anticipated Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election scheduled for Thursday. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has completed final preparations, implementing an extensive security operation for the constituency. Meanwhile, the High Court issued a temporary reprieve for Nakuru Town East MP David Gikaria, suspending a hefty fine imposed by IEBC. Democracy for the Citizens party leader Rigathi Gachagua has challenged President William Ruto to withdraw state agents from Ol Kalou ahead of the by-election if he is confident in his party winning. Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku has stated that the Ol Kalou by-election results will not affect Mt Kenya East's backing for the Kenya Kwanza government, affirming the region's continued strong support for the administration. The Election Observation Group (ELOG) has raised integrity concerns ahead of the poll.
