Kenya Kwanza Leaders Lash Out at Gachagua Over Tourism Remarks - July 2026

Kenya Kwanza leaders have strongly criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over what they described as his reckless tourism remarks. This criticism comes amid escalating political tensions in the Mount Kenya region. At the same time, Gachagua has dared the Kenyan government to arrest him if they possess evidence linking him to the outlawed Mungiki sect's alleged mobilization in the Mount Kenya region for political purposes. Inspector General Douglas Kanja is calling on parents to actively steer their children away from criminal gangs and violent activities, warning that lawbreakers will face decisive police action. Meanwhile, Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has called on the Mt Kenya region to maintain its solidarity with the Kenya Kwanza administration, assuring them of their strong position within the government.
