Mukurwe-ini MP Arrested After Overnight Standoff at Royal Media - August 2026
Mukurwe-ini Member of Parliament John Kaguchia was arrested on Monday morning after spending the night at Royal Media Services, where he claimed over 40 heavily armed, masked men surrounded the premises to apprehend him after he appeared on a live show. The MP was later held at Kamukunji Police Station following his arrest after reporting he was being followed by un-uniformed individuals. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua strongly condemned the arrest, accusing the Ruto administration of using the justice system for political persecution. Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka also condemned the arrest, alleging selective justice by the government. Residents of Gikondi, Mukurwe-ini Constituency, protested the arrest, demanding unconditional release and dropping of all charges. The High Court subsequently ordered the immediate release of the MP from police custody.
