Construction of the proposed Lamu Oil Refinery, backed by Africa's richest man Aliko Dangote, is slated to begin in October 2026. The ambitious project, aimed at boosting energy self-sufficiency in East Africa, has seen its estimated cost revised downwards. Further supporting the energy sector developments, international oil prices have seen a significant drop, sparking hopes for lower fuel costs for Kenyan motorists in the upcoming EPRA review. At the same time, KRA and KPA are launching a Smart Gate pilot and aiming for 24-hour operations at the Port of Mombasa to enhance cargo clearance efficiency.
