Violence marred the Linda Mwananchi rally in Homa Bay on Sunday, with hired goons paid up to Sh4,000 each to disrupt the event and attack participants. The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) subsequently summoned Homa Bay town MP Peter Kaluma following inflammatory remarks he allegedly made on August 15, 2026, which are believed to have incited violence at the rally. Political violence during the rally resulted in the destruction of property worth millions of shillings, affecting vehicles, a church, and a hotel. The violence also reignited old political rivalries within Luo Nyanza, reminiscent of the power struggles after the death of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.
