Gachagua Accuses Ruto of Plot to Split Mount Kenya Vote - August 2026

Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of a plot to split the Mount Kenya vote and influence the outcome of the 2027 General Election. The Deputy President alleged a conspiracy to divide votes from the Mount Kenya region in the upcoming general election. At the same time, political battles for influence in Mount Kenya continue to intensify as rival camps step up their mobilisation. Further political friction emerged as Ndindi Nyoro, leader of the People's Party of Kenya, called for the resignation of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen over rally violence. Meanwhile, President Ruto stated that Uhuru Kenyatta chose to become an opposition leader, while Kenyatta fired back at Ruto over claims of bankrolling the opposition.
