President William Ruto has ordered a crackdown on foreigners operating small businesses and engaging in hawking in Kenya, effective Monday, September 7, aiming to reserve such trade for Kenyan citizens. President William Ruto has also ordered the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to revert the minimum customs benchmark for consolidated cargo back to Ksh2.5 million from the previous Ksh3.2 million. Kenyan activists are planning protests in Nairobi on Thursday, September 3, demanding answers and the release of Ugandan opposition leader Kizza Besigye, who they allege was forcibly rendered from Kenya to Uganda.
