Cabinet Secretary Unit Linked to Standard Editor Abduction - September 2026

Standard Group Associate Editor Alex Kiprotich was abducted by armed men in Gilgil along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway on Tuesday night. The attackers, linked to a Cabinet Secretary's office, interrogated him about the newspaper's critical reporting before leaving him near Masinga Dam after approximately nine hours. Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has ordered an investigation, though former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has questioned the credibility of Kanja leading the probe. Leaders are demanding an independent and transparent investigation into the incident.
