Police Raid Manyatta MP Mukunji's Home After Nembure Violence - September 2026
Police raided the home of Manyatta MP John Gitonga Mukunji in Embu County following deadly violence at a UDA meeting in Nembure Stadium. MP Mukunji accused police of laying siege to his home, claiming it was retaliation for violence at a meeting attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. Police stated officers were on routine patrol. Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has linked the violence at the political meeting in Embu to a brewing succession battle for the Mt Kenya region's political leadership ahead of the 2027 General Election. Allies of Deputy President Gachagua issued a stern warning to President William Ruto regarding the handling of the recent political unrest in Embu.
