Ruto renews attacks on Uhuru, labels him a rebel leader - September 2026

President William Ruto has labelled his predecessor, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, a "rebel leader" for refusing to act as a statesman. This attack follows another instance where Ruto criticized Uhuru for clinging to the leadership of the Jubilee Party, stating he has embarrassed himself. At the same time, a Kenyan opposition coalition is calling for the removal of the national tallying centre ahead of the 2027 General Election, asserting its unconstitutionality. Meanwhile, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has pledged that Kenya's 2027 General Election will be free, fair, secure, peaceful, and credible, assuring both Kenyans and the international community.
