The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has uncovered a SIM-swap fraud scheme where individuals posed as Social Health Authority (SHA) registration officials to steal personal data and access mobile money accounts.

• Suspects allegedly targeted members of the public, particularly the elderly, in areas including Mwea, Machakos, and Kitui.
• The stolen information was reportedly used for SIM swaps, enabling fraudsters to drain victims' mobile money accounts and digital wallets.
• The SHA had previously warned the public about impersonators demanding money for expedited services, stressing that official services are only available through official channels like SHA branch offices and Huduma Centres.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has significantly expanded its biometric identification system, connecting 20 more Police Clearance Certificate application centres across the Central Region and neighbouring areas.

• This brings the total number of connected centres to 26, part of the DCI's nationwide deployment of the Multi-Biometric Identification System (MBIS).
• The MBIS aims to reduce Police Clearance Certificate processing time from 14 days to approximately one day.
• The system combines fingerprint, palmprint, and facial recognition, enhancing suspect identification and forensic processes.

The High Court has awarded blogger Ndiang’ui Kinyagia Ksh5 million in damages after ruling that police violated his constitutional rights during a raid at his home in Kinoo in June 2025.
