UASU Issues Seven-Day Strike Notice as Universities Face Fresh Crisis Over CBA Implementation - September 2026

The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) has issued a seven-day strike notice, signaling a fresh crisis in Kenyan universities due to stalled implementation of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) has formally petitioned the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) to revise the allowances paid to teachers involved in national examinations, describing them as outdated. Meanwhile, the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) is opposing the proposed transfer of 20,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers to the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET). Various education bills are currently being discussed in the Kenyan Parliament with stakeholders actively participating.
