Kenya and Tanzania are strengthening border security to combat cross-border crime and illegal immigration. This agreement was reached during the second Proximity Commanders Security Meeting in Kajiado County on September 24.

• Both the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TPDF) will increase surveillance, patrols, and intelligence sharing.
• Key measures include regular surveillance, impromptu patrols, and a sustained military presence.
• The meeting was co-chaired by Major General Luka Kutto (KDF) and Brigadier General Paul Masinde (TPDF).

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has ordered intensified anti-banditry operations in Samburu and Isiolo counties following recent attacks.

• The operations will target individuals with illegal firearms and those attacking security officers, civilians, and livestock.
• The Cabinet Secretary stated that over 3,000 illegal firearms and 8,000 rounds of ammunition have been recovered in the Kerio Valley.
• Murkomen urged security agencies to exercise maximum caution to minimize collateral damage during the operations.

Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to investigate remarks made by Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen concerning voter registration along the Uganda border.

• The IEBC is urged to summon CS Murkomen for an explanation regarding his statements on voter registration activities involving Ugandans.
• Justin Muturi also requested clarification from Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on his government's awareness of any related activities.
• Murkomen had stated that Kenyans living in Uganda can obtain identification and voter registration documents at the Kenyan embassy in Kampala or by crossing the border.
