Nairobi is conducting a flood response simulation, Operation Okoa Maisha, to prepare for the upcoming October-December rainy season. The exercise tests inter-agency coordination in handling potential flooding and other emergencies, with agencies setting up an emergency command centre. The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority (KMSA) has issued warnings of heavy rainfall and potential flooding across several regions of Kenya throughout October, urging residents in 227 identified flood hotspots to take precautionary measures. Meanwhile, stakeholders in Kisumu are calling for long-term solutions to address recurring floods, and Tana River County has equipped 130 community leaders with flood preparedness skills through training initiatives.
