Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has publicly criticized his successor President William Ruto, urging the Mt Kenya region not to repeat the mistake of electing him in 2022 and warning against a repeat in 2027. Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina has separately urged opposition leaders aspiring for the presidency to resolve their differences and unite behind a single candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election. Meanwhile, Ndiritu Muriithi, the former Laikipia governor, has officially taken the helm of the Kenya Reform Party, invoking the legacy of the late former President Mwai Kibaki as he assumed his new leadership role. The political maneuvering comes as Kenya prepares for the 2027 presidential election, with various factions positioning themselves for the contest.
